1. What is Space4Mars?We are all no doubt familiar with the concept of "million dollar" webpages. Since Alex Tew initiated the first such page in 2005, they've become something of a fad. Space4Mars is a variation on the basic idea that companies and individuals can buy advertising space, linking it directly to their own website and thus gain traffic to theire site. The difference between Space4Mars and many of the other so-called "million dollar" web sites is that it has not been set-up for personal gain. Every pound spent on Space4Mars will be used to support Mars Society projects and activities in the UK and Europe, and quite possibly around the world. No-one will make a personal fortune from Space4Mars, and in keeping with other web sites of this kind, the Mars Society UK guarantees that Space4Mars will remain active for at least 5 years - regardless of how quickly space is sold. 2. Where is the Money Spent?Income gained through Space4Mars will be spent on a wide range of Mars Society projects and activities. These range from our technical and research projects such as the Euro-MARS European Mars Analogue Research Station project, or on educational or outreach activities, such as our highly-successful Generation Mars Anglo-Canadian competition. We'll be adding a list of projects this website as the money comes in and is put to work. 3. Who Manages this SiteSpace4Mars is owned and operated by the Mars Society UK, a non-profit company limited by guarantee which functions as an autonomous organisation (not a Chapter) associated with the International Mars Society. The Mars Society UK is the oldest non-US Mars Society entity, and has been actively engaged in UK and international space advocacy since 1998. In that time, it has raised over $154,000 for the Society's international Mars Analogue Research Station project (of which Euro-MARS is a part); has actively supported an expansion of the UK's involvement in Europe's Aurora programme, and is currently engaged in seeking a change in UK policy towards human space flight. 4. Who Can Advertise Here?Anyone - almost! If you or your company wish to show support for the work of the Mars Society UK or the Mars Society in general, then you can advertise here and be sure your money is being put to worthwhile use. The minimum cost is £25 for a 10x10 pixel square. However, it should be noted that we will not accept adverts from any websites promoting: ault or offensive content of any description; "get-rich-quick" schemes; sales of pharmaceuticals (unless advertised by a recognised pharmaceutical company or brand-name), etc. To purchase your space on this page, simply follow the How to Buy guidelines. 5. Why Should We Buy Your PixelsIf you have a passion for space exploration, if your company wants to participate in real-world space-related research, then this is the site for you. Not other "million dollar" website promises that every penny raised will go directly into a wide range of projects and activities - some of which will be field research, others will be classroom based, inspiring our children to consider careers in science and technology, while other activities will help promote UK expertise and capabilities in space research to the rest of the world. This website won't get us to Mars - but it will give you a unique slice of Internet history and and opportunity to help us move a small step closer to making the dream of the human exploration of space a reality.
